For some tenants of apartments in Rio de Janeiro rodents could be the other white meat

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Initially, I must disclose, the place that I was dwelling can’t truly be characterized as an apartment. I’m among those kinds of individuals who needs to go so far off the beaten path that I can’t find it again. Hotels and Apartments? Not truly my bag. So certainly, when anyone like me goes to travel to Rio de Janeiro I’m prone to face some unique difficulties. Especially if you go to look at the kind of rentals I looked at. If you are taking unconventional actions, you are almost certainly going to have some unconventional situations, as I found out.

I’d actually identified some flats located in one of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. This specific favela was located within Copacabana, however it was also very close to Ipanema. While a lot of people would be likely to search for hotels or apartments, I actually found this unique piece of real estate to be embedded in the culture. Funk parties, loud music, samba, low budget fireworks at all times of the day and night. If this is actually the holiday you look for, then a favela is for you. If not, you may contemplate a different strategy for your vacation.

After I migrated into my new accommodations, it wasn’t a long time before I noticed I had an unforeseen guest. Or you could possibly would refer to him as an invader. Though it could be contended as to who was the actual invader. I imagine to this rodent, I had been in fact encroaching on his territory. Possibly he was there a long time before I showed up. Also, this isn’t really something that occurred to me while I had been seeking flats and rentals in the local slums of Rio de Janeiro. But what else could you do?

One may perhaps ask, what’s it like living with a rat? Well, almost everyone has had that roommate who is “that guy.” You recognize the sort. The ones who make noise when you’re attempting to sleep. They eat your food and don’t clean up their messes. Though I must acknowledge, when compared to other roommates in other apartments I have stayed in, this rodent was quite well mannered. But then again, the bar may be set low, very low.

Maybe next time I’ll accept the approach of staying in hotels. Although for the money, there’s no way I’d have gotten anywhere as close to Copacabana or Ipanema beach had I not moved into some accommodations that may agree to my furry four legged pal with a tail.

Sharm El Sheikh Better than the Maldives and Rio de Janeiro in World Beach Index

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

If you are seeking the best beaches in the world then forget old favourites such as the Maldives or Rio de Janeiro and head to the shores of Sharm El Sheikh according to the recent Kelkoo Beach Index.

Results of the Index, commissioned by Kelkoo and carried out by YouGov and the Centre for Economics and Business Research, ranked Sharm el Sheikh in 4th place, just behind Antalya in Turkey, north Tunisia and Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast but it was ahead of the popular Canary Islands, Bali, Côte d’Azur, Maldives, Hawaii and Rio de Janeiro.

Using the latest official statistics to assess the performance of ten key travel criteria, the Kelkoo Beach Index showed that 85% of Britons stated that affordability was the number one deciding factor for selecting a holiday destination followed by security (81%), the weather (78%) and good food (77%).

As Steven Worboys, Experience International’s MD, comments,

“It is clear to see why Sharm ranked so highly. Situated on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, it’s renowned for its year round sunny climate with consistent temperatures of 35ËšC and around 12 – 13 hours of sunshine each day. Add this to the low cost of living, ease of access from the UK and its location outside the euro zone, Sharm El Sheikh ticks a lot of boxes and is growing in popularity with many holiday makers.”

Tourism levels have been rising steadily across Egypt, even through the recent economic downturn with strong revenue figures reported for the first half of 2010. According to Egypt’s Tourism Minster, the country’s tourism generated revenue increased by 17.6% to over $5.5 billion in the first half of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

As Worboys remarks,

“Over 7 million overseas nationals visited Egypt in the first half of 2010, a significant amount coming from Russia during the winter months, and this figure is predicted to at least double by the end of the year. This trend is generating a large demand for accommodation with clever investors who own Sharm el Sheikh and or Hurghada property (the hotspot locations on the Red Sea) cashing in from good year round rental incomes.”

One development located in a premium position, just a few minutes stroll from the world class beaches of Sharm El Sheikh is Shark’s Bay Oasis. These high quality 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, some completed and ready to move into or rent out now, afford direct sea views and top quality communal facilities including 4 swimming pools and a children’s playground.

Shark’s Bay property in Sharm el Sheikh are at the moment on the market from £118,700; for more details please contact the experts at Experience International on + 44 (0) 207 321 5858 or go to
